Looping, abstract musical sound effects for the first project to be released through The Line’s R&D Department.
The first project of The Line’s experiments department, this entirely generative short apparently features no hand painting at all. Meaningless to us soundies but by all accounts, a very impressive feat.
Featuring only a lone character in a pink vacuum, The Line approached Skillbard to fill the void with an abstract and expressive semi-musical soundscape.
While our silent protagonist mimes interactions with an unseen world, the audio acts as dictation, conveying his actions in an abstract and poetic manner, as well as describing the invisible environment he interacts with.
Director Antoine Perez described the character as an “adult, slacker, chill person” and suggested the soundscape be reminiscent of something he might listen to. We went with a dense but laid-back, scrubbed Dub style with explosions of dusty skate rock, bookended by jazz-tinged metallic ambience.
